As probably known of most aeronautically interested persons, the Operation Entebbe has been raised by the Israeli government after an Airbus A-300 Air France has been hijacked on June 27, 1976, shortly after stopover at Athens. The aircraft did a regular flight from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport via Athens to Paris Orly. On board there was a great community of Jewish people whereas the hijackers were Palestinians and some German PFLP supporters.
Frist the A-300 was directed to Benghazi, where it was refueled and tractions began to liberate Palestinians prisoners held on several places. Furthermore the hijackers were disagreed about the next steps. After six hours on ground at Benghazi, the plane took off idirection Entebbe.
Meanwhile the Israeli government, Army and Mossad organized "Operation Entebbe". After having opted for several options, it decided to send special forces with four Lockheed C-130H to Entebbe. These were followed by two B-707 for evacuating the hostages hold at Entebbe Airport. On the afternoon of July e the "armada" took off from Sharm el Sheikh and flow on very low altitude over the Red Sea and Kenyan territory. They reached Entebbe at 23:53. In the darkness they attacked the forces present on the airport and delivered the hostages.
Three of them died during the operation as well as an army member, commanding a unit and named Yonatan Netanyahu, brother of the actual Israelian Prime Minister.
The whole operation took fifty-three minutes! After having left Entebbe, the aircraft did at stopover at Nairobi für refueling and transfer the injured hostages to a special medical plane.
That's roughly the story of this unique operation. More could be red in the web. Especially interesting is how the Israeli planned it in each details. So f.e. they built an exact model of the terminal hall, where the hostages were assembled.
While these days we could red some memories of the seventieth anniversary of the first flight of Lockheed C-130 Hercules, I immediately remembered this very special event and intended to recreate parts of the story in FS9. Even its out of the classic times and couldn't be attributed to retro era, I agree. But it was a challenge and not very easy as most the operation was performed during the night, not quite suitable to show on PC screen. BTW, I have forseen the board "Out of times" for things like this, which I'm not willing to post elsewhere. Anyway, here what it looks like:
The A-300 Air France taking off from Athens Hellinikon. Shortly after it has been hijacked.
The plane at Benghazi
and leaving Libya and heading to Entebbe
After a flight of several hours it reaches Entebbe Airport
The A-300 on Entebbe tarmac
In the meantime the Israelian Task Force of Operation Entebbe has been assembled. The four Lockhhed C-130 Hercules at Sharm el Sheikh ready for taxi out
After taking off they are heading to the Red Sea
on the way to Entebbe - the other tree are shown below left in the background
After reached Entebbe the operation is going on and the liberation of the hostages at its final stage
On the way back to Israel The "armada" at Nairobi Airport for refueling and transfer the injured hostages.
