That's the title of article published 1959 in the East German aviation magazine 'Deutsche Flugtechnik'. End 1958 People's Republic of Vietnam bought in the German Democratic Republic a commercial aircraft of the type Ilyushin 14P. The Vietnamese government insisted that the aircraft was ferried to Hanoi by a crew of the factory at Dresden.
So the Il-14P took of at Berlin Schönefeld on January 26, 1959 for its ferry flight. The plane was marked with special ferry marks which have been washed away after delivery at Hanoi.mThe flight was routed via Moscow Vnukovo, Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg / Koltsovo), Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulaanbaatar, Bejing, Wuhan and Nanning to finally reach Giam Lam Airport.
The Il-14P at Berlin Schönefeld. There where just some few passenger seats free, as the aircraft was fully loaded with spare parts and operating devices.
Some hours later it approached Moscow,
and landed at Vnukovo.
After having spent a night stop at Moscow, the plane continued the onward flight to Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk and Irkutsk.
While taxiing out, the crew and officials where highly impressed about the hugh number of Tupolev Tu-104 parked at Vnukovo.
At the same time the 21st Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union was held at Moscow. The communist party leaders have been using special flights to travel there.
The Il-14P approached Irkutsk and the airport
and did a quite sharp turn to get the landing path! This particular behaviour already seen at Vnukovo is certainly due to the fact that I use the JBK model as AI.
Next stops where Ulanbaatar,
and Bejing.
After further stops at Nanning and Wuhan, the Ilyushin finally reached Hanoi. It flew over the well known Long Biên Bridge in the background,
the old Mai Bach airfield,
and touched down at Giam Lam Airport.
The aircraft have been welcomed by Ho Chi Minh personally.
The crew spent some sightseeing days at Hanoi, Haiphong and the famous Halong Bay and started its return journey with a CAAC flight to Bejing at very early morning.
The flight stopped at Nanning and Wuhan.
In Bejing the crew again had to get out early to reach the Aeroflot flight to Moscow.
As conclusion the East German author wrote 'The next day this trip came to an end, which clearly demonstrated the size and strength of the socialist camp'!
